HECTORS
CAFE DINER
Hector’s Café & Diner, a beloved staple in NYC’s Meatpacking District since 1949, closed its doors on July 18, 2025, after 76 years of serving the city. Known for its classic comfort food, affordable prices, and round-the-clock service, it was a favorite for truckers, nightclub-goers, and even film crews—it famously appeared in Taxi Driver and Law & Order. As high-end redevelopment reshaped the neighborhood, Hector’s remained one of the last holdouts of old New York. Owned by the Kapelonis family for nearly five decades, the diner represented warmth, community, and resilience. Its closure marked not just the end of a restaurant, but the loss of a living piece of the city’s soul.
